TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Banner University Medical Center in Tucson is home to southern Arizona’s largest fleet of surgical robotics.
The hospital’s 10 robotic assistants perform a variety of minimally invasive procedures. One of these procedures is helping surgeons pinpoint the origins of seizures in epilepsy patients.
In her late 20s, Stephany Michel suffered a serious viral infection in her brain.
“I was in the hospital for quite a while; it was kind of a close call,” Michel said about her experience with viral encephalitis.
She’s been dealing with seizures ever since. They started small, but got worse over time.
“They moved into actual grand mal seizures,” Michel said.
Stephany said medications have helped keep her seizures at bay, but she still averages three or four a month. T
