Granit Xhaka has been the standout performer for Sunderland this season since his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen.

Sunderland have no desire to sell their captain Granit Xhaka in the January transfer window after a brilliant start to the Premier League campaign. The 33-year-old captain took the armband at the Stadium of Light this summer after joining the newly promoted side from Bundesliga giants Bayer Leverkusen and has been one of the standout performers for Regis Le Bris' side.

The Black Cats saw off the likes of AC Milan during the summer to sign the Swiss international, with owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus playing a key role in signing the former Arsenal midfielder.

Sunderland paid an estimated £13million up front for Xhaka, with a further £4.3million agreed in adds-ons with Leverkuse
