A police investigation has been launched after a schoolgirl died in a suspected drug death in Helensburgh.

On Sunday, November 16, an 11-year-old girl was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children after falling ill at her family home on Friday.

An ambulance was called on Sunday for the Hermitage Academy pupil after her condition worsened and loved ones became increasingly concerned.

Sadly, she passed away on Monday, November 17 after being placed into intensive care, reports the Daily Record .

Police Scotland have launched a probe into the heartbreaking death and Argyll and Bute Council has confirmed that they are supporting her family alongside fellow pupils and staff at Hermitage Academy.
