NEW YORK (WBNG) -- Law enforcement officials are warning of a new scam targeting Android users.
The New York State Sheriff’s Association warned of a new malware called “N-Gate,” which can steal sensitive information, such as card details and PINs.
If the malware infects your phone, and you’re tricked into a fake “tap-to-pay” or “card validation” screen, entering your PIN allows the malware to capture your payment information and send it to scammers waiting at an ATM to cash out.
The association shared how Android users can keep themselves and their information safe.
Only install banking apps through Google Play or the official bank site.
Hang up on unsolicited calls claiming to be your bank.
Call the bank using the number on your card.
