PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — A cow wandering onto Interstate 270 South brought all lanes of traffic to a halt Monday night, creating an unusual and chaotic two-hour shutdown that left drivers stunned — and searching for answers.
That cow, now identified as Marigold, a Highland cow with a distinctive fuzzy coat, slipped out of a livestock trailer on her trip home to West Virginia. Her owner, Samantha Gay, had just picked her up from a farm in Raymond, Ohio, when the journey took a surprising turn.
Gay, who runs a small farm, said Marigold had already shown a bit of a stubborn streak.
“She was a problem from the beginning,” Gay said. “Hopefully she tames down and gets herself together.”
