Balinese authorities have launched a full investigation after a young tourist died and scores of travellers reported falling violently ill at a low-cost hostel in Canggu.
The incident has since raised serious concerns about the safety at the popular backpacker destination.
The death of 25-year-old Chinese traveller Deqing Zhuoga and the hospitalisation of at least ten other guests followed what appears to have been a sudden and widespread medical emergency inside Clandestino Hostel.
The alarming incident has left shaken survivors demanding answers and warning others to take care before booking cheap accommodation on the island.
Ms Zhuoga collapsed after suffering intense vomiting and chills during a communal dinner at the $9-a-night hostel. Hours later she was found unresponsive.
