GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) - Where Washington Avenue and Airport Road meet in Gulfport creates one of the biggest centers of traffic in the city.

At a community meeting, the city showcased its plans that it says will reduce backups.

The concept shows a roundabout at the intersection, widened roads, and an expanded buffer zone for the airport runway.

Residents of Turkey Creek and Bayou View packed City Hall and made it clear that they don’t believe the plan will work.

They say they’re ready for a bigger and not-so-new idea- a road connecting Highway 90 to I-10, which has been discussed for decades.
