Architects propose new designs to replace NYC’s scaffolding

The city is revealing its first look at redesigned sidewalk scaffolding meant to replace the familiar green sheds that have lined streets for decades.

While the current pipe-and-plywood model is cheap and effective, it blocks light and often obscures storefronts.

Vishaan Chakrabarti, founder and creative director of PAU — one of the firms behind the new concepts — joined “Mornings On 1” Wednesday to discuss how the updated designs aim to improve safety, visibility and curb appeal.
