HUNTSVILLE -- A man who led the Madison County Sheriff's Office for 17 years has died, according to the Sheriff's Office and a local funeral home.

Jesse "Phillip" Morgan, 78, of Huntsville; passed away Tuesday at Meadowview Healthcare and Rehab in Huntsville, according to an online obituary posted by Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville.

Morgan served as Madison County sheriff from 1999 until his retirement in 2016.

The Sheriff's Office offered condolences to Morgan's friends and family in a Facebook post Tuesday and said it will be honoring his service and contribution to Madison County's history as sheriff.
