ASHBURN, Va. — An Ashburn volunteer fire chief was arrested for embezzling station funds Wednesday morning.
William Graham II, 66, serves as the chief of the Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. A handful of charges made on Sept. 28, totaling $2,000, on Graham's department-issued credit card were discovered by the fire department.
As the chief, it is Graham's duty to file a report with the county's sheriff's department regarding any fraud within the department. Once the report was filed, the sheriff's office conducted an investigation.
The investigation found that the fraudulent charges were made by Graham. Now, the sheriff's office is charging Graham with embezzlement by a public officer.
