The Brewsters of Brooklyn are a tad mad, and when nephew Mortimer stops in for a visit he discovers just how deep that madness has manifested.

Mortimer is the central character in Joseph Kesselring’s gem of a play, Arsenic and Old Lace, which debuted on Broadway in 1941 and was popularized on film in 1944 by director Frank Capra and starring Cary Grant. The black comedy is getting the full treatment this week with an outstanding production from Algoma Repertory Theatre.

Director Marc Beaudette and a wacky cast of 13 serve up screwball comedy, unimaginable horror, rocky romance and surprising heart in this nostalgic and wickedly charming outing.
