A brave woman has been praised for her 'strength and bravery' after the man who subjected her to a brutal sexual assault was jailed for eight years. ‌

Ali Chikane, 35, attacked the woman in the Murieston Crescent Lane area of Dalry in Edinburgh on February 5, 2024, leaving her with serious injuries. ‌

He was sentenced on Wednesday, November 19, at the High Court in Edinburgh, having been convicted last month. ‌

Detective Inspector Keith Taylor said the victim’s resilience had been central to bringing the dangerous offender to justice.

He said: “I want to commend the strength and bravery shown by the victim throughout an incredibly traumatic investigation. Her courage has ensured this violent individual is now behind bars. ‌
