ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The Georgia State Ethics Commission has ruled candidates can loan their own personal money to a leadership committee or political action committee (PAC).

The advisory , which comes in the middle of a battle between Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and Attorney General Chris Carr, also ruled candidates can be repaid with funds that have been raised by those committees.

Carr and Jones - both Republicans - are running for governor in the state’s nationally watched 2026 midterms.

In August, a federal judge dismissed an attempt by Carr to prevent Jones from using his leadership committee to raise unlimited funds for Jones’ campaign.
