A Virginia man was killed early Wednesday after police say he was speeding, trying to pass cars, and slammed head-on into a pickup on a Manassas roadway.

Officers were called at 6:18 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, to Old Centreville Road and Parkland Street, where they found a 2004 Honda Accord and a 2021 Ford F-150 heavily damaged in the roadway, according to Prince William County Police.

Investigators said the Honda driver, 34-year-old Manassas Park resident Diego Salazar Rodriguez, had been heading north at a high rate of speed and “attempting to pass other vehicles.”

Police said that as he went into a turn, his car crossed into the opposite lane and struck the Ford head-on.

Salazar Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene, along with a Yorkie that officers found inside the car.

The Ford’s driver, a 65-year-old man from Broad Run, was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.

Investigators are asking anyone who saw the crash to contact police.
