BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor man accused of assaulting a woman and child has been arrested on several charges.
Bangor police were contacted early Wednesday morning by a neighbor who reported hearing a woman "yelling for help" at a nearby residence.
Police arrived at the scene shortly after 5:15 a.m. and were quickly able to locate the residence, the department said in a news release.
A police officer who was involved in the response reportedly witnessed a man, later identified as 28-year-old Jesse Ramsdell, "actively assaulting the female victim calling for help."
The officer then entered the residence in an attempt to stop the attack, according to the release.
Investigators believe the woman had been choked and restrained, and they said a child at the home had also been assaulted.
