SHAFTSBURY – The Select Board on Monday voted to participate in an Act 250 exemption aimed to encourage certain types of housing projects.

The projects must be of less than 500 units and on less than 10 acres of land. The projects must also be located in approved village centers.

“What this will do will make it that your municipal permits are the primary driver of the permitting of a project rather than having a second-layer review … to make sure it meets the regional standards,” said Nick Zaiac, regional planner with the Bennington County Regional Commission (BCRC).
