BENNINGTON — Following a brief executive session, the Select Board on Monday approved a three-year contract for Daniel Monks as town manager.

Monks, who had been serving in the post on an acting basis since the death of longtime Town Manager Stuart Hurd, was hired with an annual base salary of $135,000.

The employment agreement was approved without further comment following the closed session on a vote of 5 to 1. Nancy White was opposed and Sarah Perrin was absent from the meeting.

The contract agreement also includes a bonus of $21,000 to compensate Monks for serving as both assistant town manager – his former position – and as acting, and now permanent town manager in the absence of a new assistant manager. Local News
