BENNINGTON — As the holiday season and the end of 2025 loom ahead, Scott Winslow, executive director and food security coordinator of the Greater Bennington Community Services (GBCS) "Kitchen Cupboard" is expressing concerns about the realities being experienced today – and what the new year might bring for the organization.

The recent government shutdown created quite a scare, according to Winslow – one that we might not be over just yet.

This past government shutdown, which occurred from October 1 to November 12, was the longest in United States history. It lasted 44 days, and was the fifth major shutdown since 1981. Additionally, it was the third major shutdown to occur during a Trump presidency.
