The Scottish Chambers of Commerce (SCC) has urged the Chancellor to use the forthcoming Autumn Budget to restore business confidence in Scotland and the UK.

In a letter addressed to Rachel Reeves, the SCC has called for her upcoming Budget to serve as a "turning point" for businesses across the UK, warning that firms are currently grappling with a perfect storm of escalating costs and policy uncertainty.

According to the SCC's most recent economic survey, business confidence is on the decline across the majority of sectors, investment intentions have been put on hold, and hiring costs have reached record highs.

Liz Cameron, director and chief executive of SCC, stated: "Firms across Scotland are ready to invest and grow, but a complex and costly policy environment is holding them back."
