TRAVERSE CITY — A downtown Traverse City marijuana dispensary has closed its doors, and with it comes new questions about the city’s cannabis licensing availability and the future of an increasingly competitive local market.

Dunegrass, a locally operated marijuana retailer, recently shut down its Front Street location. Under Traverse City’s marijuana ordinance, a dispensary’s license doesn’t remain active once it closes.

Instead, that license ceases to exist unless the City Commission chooses to reopen public discussion to consider whether it should be reissued.
