The National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary report Thursday into the crash of a UPS cargo plane near Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport.

The report suggests stress fractures in the bearings that connect the engine to the underwing pylon may have caused the number one engine to detach from the aircraft on takeoff of the flight bound for Honolulu. Graphic images show the separation as the plane tries to liftoff from runway 17R. The engine disconnected and flew over the wing and above the fuselage before landing near the runway. The plane only rose to a peak height of 100 feet in the air before the crash. The crash zone stretched some 3,000 feet after the landing gear struck the top of a UPS warehouse just south of the airport.
