Designers, couture connoisseurs and fashion followers with FOMO, you know what time it is: The 2026 Met Gala theme has been revealed. And this particular announcement has generated much discussion.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute announced on Nov. 17 that next spring’s exhibition will be titled “Costume Art,” which determines the theme for the gala. It will explore the “dressed body” in objects and artworks from across the museum, highlighting “the inherent relationship between clothing and the body.”

As a dress code for the accompanying Costume Institute Benefit, better known as the Met Gala, this leaves a wealth of room for creative interpretation.
