MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Madison Fire Department responded early Tuesday morning to the city’s near east side after a person tried to heat their apartment by using their oven.

According to MFD, crews responded around 3:45 a.m. to the 700 block of Rethke Avenue for a report of a fire alarm investigation.

When crews arrived, they went up to the third floor of the 60-unit apartment complex.

One of the tenants told officials he was using the oven as a heat source because he was cold. He further explained to firefighters that he fell asleep and woke up when he heard the fire alarm going off.

MFD aired out the apartment, disconnected the oven and turned off the breaker.
