SHAFTSBURY – Town officials will have a third budget hearing at the Dec. 1 Select Board meeting, after further looking at proposed costs that could be about 13 percent greater than this year.
Officials held a second hearing on the draft fiscal year 2027 budget at their meeting on Monday.
Town administrator Paula Iken said the draft budget increase over fiscal 2026 started at 17 percent, then they got it down to 13 percent, and now it is just under that at 12.94 percent.
“But we still have a lot of work to do here, as far as we have so many needs this year that I'm not sure how in depth I'm going to go into it this evening,” she said. “We need to show this again in two weeks, because there are going to be questions asked and answered during that time, and we're really trying to drive it
