The internet allows users to create anonymous identities, making it easier for adults with harmful intentions to hide behind screens. Child safety experts say online gaming platforms, in particular, have become a growing avenue for predators to contact minors.

Kristen McCallie, Executive Director of the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC), says video games are increasingly where children may encounter inappropriate or dangerous interactions.

“Video games are places where kids might have something happen, and they don't feel comfortable talking to the adult, that’s a safe adult for them,” McCallie said.
