PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - A halfway house proposed for Peoria’s South Side has been tabled by the city council , but the founder of a homelessness outreach group said it is needed more than ever.

Chicago-based organization GRO Community proposed developing the empty structure, located at 1924 SW Adams Street. The house would help shelter 10 to 12 parolees from the Illinois Department of Corrections. The individuals would pay $200 to $300 each in rent. To qualify for this, they would first need to participate in a workforce development program.

LULA Founder Kshe Bernard said she is concerned it will not make it past the council.
