The City of New Haven is reviewing signatures submitted by two separate groups of at Sunset Ridge Apartments after both filed paperwork and were approved to form tenants’ unions.

It’s the latest chapter in a growing dispute over the last few weeks.

Last week, tenants supported by the Connecticut Tenants Union tried to announce the formation of their union, only to be interrupted by a second group of tenants, which some residents say is supported by property management.

That group of a majority of Hispanic residents is led by Alejandro De Frutos, and residents in the opposing union raised questions about whether he and others listed on union paperwork were actually residents.
