BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —
Denim on 7th in Birmingham hosted a donation event to support Jamaican children dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Melissa, which caused billions of dollars in damage last month.
Owner Malek Kimble said the initiative began after his child's friend showed him video of the storm's destruction.
"When you think about kids, all they need to think about is they're supposed to be happy. They should be enjoying life and they're dealing with displacement and homes being destroyed and so as a father it really touches my heart, and I wanted to do my part," Kimble said.
The proceeds from the event will be used to purchase supplies and food for a school in Jamaica, serving approximately 250 children, mostly between the ages of three and nine.
