The Santa Maria girls basketball team has typically been successful.
They even went on a stretch having four straight winning seasons.
But after the Saints ended 2024 with a 11-18 losing record, coach Erik Ramos wants to show it was a fluke.
“When I got here, I wanted to create a winning culture that players wanted to be around,” Ramos said. “We just didn’t get the job done last year.”
Now, a new season has dawned and the Saints are making sure the bad is behind them.
“We have redemption on our minds,” Ramos said.
Santa Maria took its first step forward on Wednesday, winning the season opener against Carpinteria, 50-41.
It was the seventh straight win over the Warriors dating back to 2018.
