ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Two young cousins got stuck in a Downtown Atlanta apartment elevator for hours are now thanking the first responders who rescued them.

“The first thing that was going thru my mind was that I hope we get out sooner than later. And the second thing is I hope we don’t die in here,” said Johnny Jones, the 13-year-old who was rescued after being stuck in a downtown Atlanta apartment elevator.

The family lives at the apartment, and the cousins had been on their way down to lunch.

“And suddenly the elevator just stopped, and we were confused and were ringing the button for like 30 minutes, and the button wasn’t working. We called our auntie and his stepdad and they called the firefighters,” said Malai Moore, who was rescued from elevator.
