EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A train is going off the rails in Effingham County, but don’t worry, it’s just a drill.

The Effingham County Emergency Management Agency (EEMA) has organized an emergency train derailment exercise Friday in Springfield.

Effingham County Emergency Management Agency Deputy Director Shanna Smith says the county has never done a training as extensive as the one happening at the Effingham Administrative Complex Friday.

The agency has been planning the train derailment exercises for over a year. Smith says while an emergency like this one may seem rare, it’s becoming more common across the nation.

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has reported an average of 1,300 train derailments each year for the last decade.
