HUNTINGTON — Huntington’s G.W. “Jerry” Sutphin, a nationally known river historian who died in 2024, left his vast collection of photographs and other river memorabilia to Marshall University Special Collections .

The collection will be unveiled at a private reception from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Special Collections Department on the second floor of MU’s Morrow Library.

“We don’t have the room that would be needed to accommodate a big crowd, so we’ve been forced to make the reception an invitation-only affair,” Special Collections Director Lori Thompson said. “But we hope that in the days and weeks ahead many people will visit us and enjoy seeing this wonderful collection.”
