KENT COUNTY, MI – Urban archery, hunter recruitment and local ordinances banning deer feeding are among the solutions being recommended to Kent County communities to help ethically manage their growing deer populations.

A countywide task force released its deer management recommendations on Nov. 13, after completing a year-long study aimed at devising mitigation strategies that can fit the different urban and rural parts of the county.

The goal of the study , conducted in partnership with Grand Valley State University, was to look for ways to reduce nuisance issues and vehicle crashes caused by deer while also maintaining a healthy deer herd and supporting ecological processes such as forest regeneration.
