BAY CITY, MI – Basketball drove Chris Sanford to make some unconventional life decisions.

His life, his decisions, no regrets.

“One thing I’ve learned: Bet on yourself,” he said.

“If you have goals and dreams, go get ’em. Life is not going to wait for you. It will pass you by. So, go get ’em and do your best to make them happen.”

That’s one of the many messages Sanford is conveying to his players as the first-year boys basketball coach at Bay City Central.

It’s a mantra he’s lived in the realm of basketball, from the time he made his debut as a college player at the age of 24 to the time he quit his job in law enforcement to launch a coaching career at age 48.
