OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - It’s time to ease on down the road, Omaha!

The Broadway classic “The Wiz” is celebrating 50 years in 2025, and the national tour is making a stop here in the metro this week.

This groundbreaking twist on The Wizard of Oz changed the face of Broadway. The musical uses soul, gospel and funk music to tell the classic story through a new perspective.

Elijah Ahmad Lewis plays the Scarecrow.

“Of course, it’s the story of finding home,” Lewis said. “We’re always trying to find where we fit and if we look closely, we realize that we are an entity of a bigger piece. So, whoever you are, nationality, spirituality, being, whatever you are from your core, you are that puzzle piece that makes us all together.”
