BALTIMORE —

The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services' second annual Turkey Drive takes place Tuesday afternoon in Baltimore.

DPSCS staff volunteers will distribute food, clothing, shoes, accessories and resources to families in need ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.

"By providing support and resources such as food, clothing and access to services, we hope to strengthen individuals and families in order to help create safer neighborhoods," DPSCS said in a statement. "When communities' basic needs are addressed, fewer people cycle through the justice system."

The event takes place from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday on Spring Street outside the Calvin B. Scruggs Funeral Home.
