Heavy traffic delays swept through North Jersey roads Nov. 21 after a closure on the Cross Bronx Expressway caused backups stretching to the George Washington Bridge, according to police.
Fort Lee police said an accident on the expressway led to major delays at the GWB, spilling congestion into borough streets during the morning commute. Numerous officers were deployed to traffic posts across the borough to help manage the gridlock.
“We have been advised of major delays at the GWB due to a road closure on the Cross Bronx Expressway,” the department said in a statement. Officers are working to “mitigate the traffic problem as best as we can,” police said.
Drivers were urged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time while the delays persist.
