1BROOKLYN, NY – An off-duty NYPD officer was taken into custody early Friday morning following an alleged assault incident in Brooklyn.
Police said the arrest occurred at approximately 2:54 a.m. within the 70th Precinct.
The officer, identified as 24-year-old Sajid Mehmood, was charged with strangulation and assault.
Details about the alleged encounter or the relationship between Mehmood and the victim have not yet been disclosed.
The NYPD confirmed the arrest and stated that the Internal Affairs Bureau has launched an investigation into the case.
