St. Clare’s shifts perceptions about affordable housing
After 30 years in the business of providing deeply affordable and supportive housing to those who need it most, St. Clare’s Housing executive director Andrea Adams is certain of one thing: beauty and affordability can – and should – go hand in hand.
It’s why St. Clare’s embeds art, culture and public-facing design into every project they delivers, meeting urgent needs for housing with buildings that spark connection as opposed to fear.
“In a lot of ways, what we’re doing is trying to play the long game, which is to change the way people view affordable housing,” said Adams. “We have to change the hearts of communities, and I think the way we need to do that is to demonstrate that affordable housing enhances neighbourhoods.”
