LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood is recommending a series of facility changes for the 2026–27 school year as part of an effort to provide “high-quality and cost-effective learning environments” for students.
The proposals, which require approval from the Jefferson County Board of Education, include school closures, consolidations and program relocations. Yearwood said the recommendations follow a detailed review of the district’s Facility Profile Index, which evaluates building condition, enrollment and cost per student.
“These are difficult but necessary steps,” Yearwood said. “We made this decision after a thorough examination of the quality and capacity of our facilities and our educational models.”
