The Sharon Robotics Team is set to take on a critical, new skill that may have students saving lives alongside working to program competition bots.

Students on the team will soon be certified in CPR and AED emergency responses. This comes after the team witnessed an elderly man collapse when they had stopped for lunch following a competition in Cranberry, PA. The man became unresponsive, despite CPR efforts by the team's coach, Dave Tomko and others on the scene.

After being transported to a nearby hospital, the man died.

Coach Tomko said in a press release that the incident "left a profound impact on the team" and inspired them to learn lifesaving skills of their own.
