Payments have begun being sent to the millions of Amazon Prime users who unknowingly signed up for the monthly service. The payments are part of a $2.5 billion settlement agreed to earlier this year by the online shopping giant and the Federal Trade Commission.

The FTC accused Amazon of enrolling customers in Prime subscriptions without their consent. The shopping giant was also accused of making it unnecessarily difficult to cancel a subscription.

An estimated 35 million customers are expected to receive payments that can be worth up to $51. Payments for millions of users are expected to arrive before Dec. 24, and some customers have already received theirs. Customers receiving a payment should check the email associated with the Prime account for more information.
