In the Room , the 2025 Audience Award — Showcase winner at the Vancouver International Film Festival , will be landing on the National Film Board (NFB) website for free streaming beginning Nov. 25.

The feature-length documentary sees Vancouver -based Afghan expat filmmaker Brishkay Ahmed talk with five prominent Afghan women — including a singer, a director, and an activist — about resilience, cultural identity and the fight for women’s rights in Afghanistan under the Taliban government.

Ahmed (In the Rumbling Belly of Motherland, Story of Burqa) was born in Kabul and came to Canada at age 12. During her career as a filmmaker, she frequently returned to Afghanistan as a film and TV director, focusing on stories about women’s fight for freedom and equality.
