JONES COUNTY — A woman was injured early Thursday after her SUV overturned into a water-filled ditch along Sharon Moss Road, according to the Jones County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded around 6:51 a.m. to the one-vehicle crash near the intersection of Shady Grove Moss Road. The driver of a 2020 Kia Sportage told 911 dispatchers her vehicle was upside down in the water and that she escaped by breaking a window with a pair of scissors. The SUV came to rest near a large box culvert, authorities said.

EMServ Ambulance Service and Shady Grove Fire & Rescue also responded. The woman was taken to South Central Regional Medical Center with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The crash remains under investigation.
