AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff has stepped up his efforts to bring a U.S. veterans cemetery to Augusta.

It’s something that’s been talked about for decades but that’s never happened.

But now there’s $150 million in the bipartisan funding bill for constructing veterans cemeteries.

U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter calls for more ICE agents in Georgia

Buddy Carter claimed there’s an “urgent need for an enhanced ICE presence in Atlanta,” writing that the federal agents would “protect citizens against record levels of illegal immigrants” and “confront safety concerns.”

So Osoff is writing to Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins − a former congressman from Georgia − to try to get some of that money used for a veterans cemetery in Augusta.
