SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office held a press conference to discuss a “personnel matter” on Friday.

Sheriff Bill Rhyne said he learned on Friday morning that a deputy had recently made “what can be considered a racially insensitive comment” on social media.

Rhyne said the deputy, who was assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division, was terminated on Friday.

“Following a brief but thorough review, the command staff determined that the deputy’s actions were inconsistent with the standards and expectations of this agency and made the decision to terminate the deputy’s employment,” a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office shared a screenshot of the post with FOX Carolina, but due to its content, we will not be publishing it.
