Things are about to get a bit more expensive for Pittsburgh International’s airlines as the airport seeks revenue to pay for its $1.7 billion terminal that opened this week.

The airport forecasts next year’s cost per enplanement — or how much an airline pays for a boarding passenger — to be $17.64, an increase of nearly one dollar from this year’s expected $16.69. It’s an even sharper jump from 2024’s $11.95 figure and the pre-pandemic cost of $9.77 in 2019.

Cost per enplanement typically directly correlates with the number of boarding passengers. In 2020, for example, the cost per enplanement at Pittsburgh International was over $20 per passenger since there were so few travelers because of the pandemic.
