Approximately 22 per cent of Alberta’s 16,000 licensed practical nurses and health-care aides are set to walk off their jobs on Saturday morning, potentially affecting the timeline of elective surgeries in the province.

The job action follows a 98 per cent strike vote earlier this month by members of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE), who opposed the offer provided by the province’s bargaining unit.
