SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The Notre Dame football team will be without one of its star defenders for Saturday’s game against Syracuse.

The team announced late Friday afternoon that starting safety Tae Johnson has been ruled out with an injury to his left hand.

It’s unclear at this time how severe the injury is.

The redshirt freshman leads the team in interceptions (four) and is third in tackles (48).

While it’s unfortunate news, Notre Dame is expected to handle Syracuse without him. The No. 9 Irish are heavy favorite against the Orange, who are 3-7 on the season and have lost six straight.

Kickoff for Saturday’s matchup is set for 3:30 p.m. right here on WNDU.
