A false threat made against a York County junior high school Friday afternoon prompted a brief lockdown of the school, according to officials.
The York County Emergency Operations Center, which fields 911 calls in the county, on Friday received a “hoax” threat regarding the Red Lion Area Junior High School.
These types of calls are commonly known as “swatting,” when someone deliberately makes a false 911 report to evoke a large law enforcement presence and possibly draw a tactical or SWAT team.
Both the junior and senior high school were placed on lockdown after the threat was received. York County Regional Police and Pennsylvania State Police arrived on the scene around 12:30 p.m.
Police then searched the schools, found nothing suspicious and determined the threat was unfounded. By 1:
